Introduction

For the student or professional who needs a cell phone that can literally do it all for a reasonable price the Motorola A630 may just be your ideal fit. Those who consider themselves text message fiends, will thoroughly enjoy the full QWERTY keyboard that fully allows the user to barrage friends or colleagues with numerous messages in rapid fire succession. The hands free options coupled with the Bluetooth wireless technology make the A630 very easy to use while multitasking or carrying on a conversation while driving. Before delving into all of the added features let's take a brief look at the basics.

profile

Here's a nice long list of specs to check out ...

  • Size: 3.74 x 1.93 x 0.92 Inches

  • Weight: 4.3 Ounces

  • Included Battery : Lithium-Ion

  • Talk Time: About 7.5 hours

  • Standby Time: About 10 days

  • Battery

  • Hands Free Headset

  • Charger

  • SIM Card

Quite honestly, the A630 is a little bit too wide for my taste. Holding the phone in your hand is a bit cumbersome, but this is the only drawback to the unit I found. Using the included hands free earpiece is highly recommended. The battery life is fantastic as I only charge my phone about every third day. The display on the front of the phone is very useful as most of the basic applications are only a couple of clicks away and can be fully customized to fit your particular needs. The ease of opening the phone up to quickly send text messages or check email is perhaps the best feature the A630 has to offer.

Bluetooth and Hands Free Options

If you haven't already purchased a phone with BlueTooth technology let me suggest that your life becomes much easier once you incorporate it into your daily activities. The ease and comfort of being able to carry over your phonebook to your car, computer or other hand held device is wonderful. With the voice activated functions the A630 has, you can easily call anyone in your phonebook while driving down the road, even having the person on the other line speaking back to you through your car speakers.

Email and Full Keyboard

Everyone has at least 2 or more email accounts these days that may need to be checked up on regularly. The A630 allows users to configure up to 5 separate email addresses, from which you can both send and receive messages. Not as efficient as a blackberry, you can still catch up on important memos or chain letters that friends keep sending you even after you've asked them a hundred times to stop. With the full keyboard you can reply quickly as if you had never left the office for the three hour lunch at the beach!

Miscellaneous

Downloading your favorite ring tones, games, and even a handy calculator for figuring out how much to tip are included with the A630. As with most phones and providers you must subscribe to an extra service in order browse the web, download full versions of games and or use some of the added features. The camera on the A630 isn't half bad and it is always fun to take pictures of friends and family and then have the pic pop up on your phone when they call. There are a couple of different ways to take photos. You can take pictures in MMS (160x120), Medium (320x240), or High (640x480) resolution mode and save as many images up to 5MB. There are quite a few games that you can download and spend countless hours trying to conquer, but then again your battery won't last nearly as long.

Overall Impressions

The functionality and personalization of the A630 are its greatest attributes. The ease of using both the external and internal displays makes the phone all the more appealing. With the speakerphone setting I often open the handset and listen to my voicemail, using the QWERTY keyboard to navigate through my selections. The phone is a bit pricy at the MSRP of $299, a full $100 more than the V330 which has most of the same features minus the full keyboard, but an experienced shopper could probably get some kind of packaged deal with a mail in rebate. Bottom line is the A630 is fun and fully functional, a great buy for those in the know and looking for a little bit more than just a means to communicate. For the right price, packaged with some great features, you might have found your next cell phone.
