Introduction
Admit it - you've got at least 2 power strips and about 12 things plugged
into the sockets that handle your computer and accompanying equipment.
You rarely tread back there for fear of death by strangulation because
the wires easily trap their prey. Sadly, there's not been much that you
could do about it other than simply try to keep things organized ... or
steal those twisty-ties from the supermarket to get things looking half-way
decent back there.
Now,
there's a company called Cable-Safe that's introduced a very simple product
that attaches to the port-hole or back of your desk (assuming you have
a 3 inch clearance area for the unit to clamp onto) or mounts directly
into the wall. The Cable Manager makes it very easy to organize cables,
hold a few items (like a router), and keep everything organized and off
the floor.
what it comes with
Here's what is in the box ...
- 1 DeskClamp
- 1 CableTrack
- 3 CableHooks
- 18 CableStraps
- 1 Cable Label Sheet
- 4 Cable Guides
- 3 Bungee Straps
- 1 Alcohol Pad
- 4 Screws
- 1 Instruction Sheet
installation
The directions don't specifically say how to put the unit
itself together, but focus more on how to use the unit in a practical
way. That shouldn't worry you, as it was very easy to assemble and mount
onto the desk I used it for. The clamp system works very well, and is
strong enough to hold up to 10lbs, which is way more than enough
for what you are going to be using it for. All in all, a pretty easy installation
- the only time consuming part to it is re-organizing the cables you've
let get out of control.
Performance
I
have to admit that behind the desk looks like an entirely new universe
full of cleanliness and wonder. It's really amazing to see the difference
with the Cable Manager and without. This makes vacuuming a much better
experience certainly, and definitely gives the area a much more professional
feel.
Overall Impressions
Using the Cable Manager was definitely a good investment
in my time. For $34.99 this unit is well worth the price ... and not just
for the home. I've seen so many offices with cables running all over the
place and thought there just had to be a better way (or just
wished for wireless EVERYTHING). The fact is, if you have desks with wires
running everywhere and hope to impress a client visiting your office,
having wires all over the place only makes your company look like a bunch
of slobs.
The Cable-Safe Cable Manager is a great product that makes
sense, in my mind, more for the office than for the home. Keep things
looking good, professional, and clean ... that's definitely the way to
do it. If you're a clean freak and hate looking like a slob, then this
unit is definitely for you. The included bungee cords, velcro, and sticky
tabs add to the ability to keep things organized and safe.
Overall, the Cable Manager is a very solid product that
belongs in all offices and most homes. If you're tired of hours of wire
management issues, give this product a try.
