Frasier:
The Final Season
By its 11th and final season who would have thought
that Frasier could
have so many twists and turns but that is what we have come to expect
from the brilliant writers on the show. This was a wonderful show,
witty yet elegant and disastrous all at the same time. |

|
Star Trek
Voyager: Season 5
Voyager boldly goes into season
5 with some great episodes and storylines not to mention some
real stinkers. The greatest development in season 5 was probably the
ongoing relationship between Seven of Nine and Captain Janeway. |

|
The Andy
Griffith Show: Season One
When thinking of The Andy
Griffith show the phrase “As American as apple pie”
seems to fit the charming soothing undertones of this TV classic.
Andy Griffith plays the sheriff of Mayberry, North Carolina, keeping
the peace all without the use of a sidearm. His smooth demeanor is
complimented by his bumbling albeit forthright deputy Barney Fife.

Tru Calling:
Season 1
Eliza Dushku plays the intriguing charismatic
Tru Davies, whose
job at the city morgue gives her the opportunity to save the lives
of its inhabitants by reliving the previous day trying to save them
from their eventual fate. After losing her internship at a hospital
right after graduation from college, Tru takes the job at the city
morgue. |

Reba: Season
1
Reba
McEntire plays the energetic southern belle/soccer mom in her self
titled sitcom. Her All-American Family is slightly dysfunctional while
being very funny. In the very first episode Reba learns that her 17
year old daughter Cheyenne (JoAnna Garcia) is pregnant and her husband
of 20 years (Christopher Rich) is going to be a Dad once again. |

|
Legally Blonde
Collection
Get ready for blonde, blonde and more blonde in
the Platinum Collection of Legally
Blonde. In this comedic, uplifting, girl power saga we get to
follow sorority queen Elle Woods through her ‘blonde moments’
from Havard Law school all the way to the white house. |

|
Napoleon
Dynamite
Past meets present or rather suburban Idaho is
trying to catch up to the rest of the world through the eyes of our
ill fated hero Napoleon
Dynamite in this comedy for the nerd inside of us. When he isn’t
dodging bullies at high school or drawing mythical “Ligers”,
Napoleon is busy arguing with his 32 year old brother Kip. |

|
Star Trek:
The Original Series : Season Two
In its sophomore season Star
Trek continued the exploration of space while introducing fans
to some new characters that became mainstays in Gene Roddenberry’s
fantasy universe. Despite the low budget and simple effects the storylines
(with the exception of a couple of stinkers) were always enthralling
of course complemented by Captain Kirk and his crew. |

|
BarberShop
Collection
A great film followed by another great film, Barbershop
captures some of the best comedians and comics of our time in a movie
perfectly suited for their individual talents. The stories are original
and both movies get you involved caring about the players. |

|
Fahrenheit
9/11
Perhaps the most difficult part of this review
is too keep personal both political and personal feelings aside while
watching such an engrossing movie, full of emotion, fact and perhaps
just a little spin. Controversial documentary film maker Michael Moore
once again puts together a riveting, though provoking film detailing
the happenings surrounding the events of 9/11. |

|
Dawson's
Creek _- Season 4
Season
4 definitely marked the end of an era for Dawson’s Creek.
The end of innocence, the end of friendships and the culmination of
perhaps the best season the show ever had. Senior year came around
to Capeside High will all of our characters dealing with the turmoil
of teen life. With Pacey and Joey returning from their summertime
sailing voyage. |
11/10/04
|
Easy Rider
Certainly before my time, but highly recommended
Easy Rider is a tale
of freedom and how it is viewed and shared differently by people in
all walks of life. Brilliantly directed by Dennis Hopper, Easy Rider
follows Wyatt and Billy, played by Hopper and Fonda on their trip
to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. All the while we meet a man living
on a farm with his family, a hippie commune, as well as some scenes
in good old American towns. |

|
Jamie Kennedy
Experiment : Seasons 2
Whether you are laughing at the myriad of characters
that Jaime Kennedy himself
plays, or the looks on the faces of the marks haplessly pulled into
the highly original skits and gags, there is something for everyone.
The hidden cameras capture every angle of the hilarity and downright
terror of some of the people have going through some of these situations. |
10/25/04
|
Punk'd: Seasons
2
It is always fun to see people get pranks pulled
on them, but when it is celebrities getting their just deserts it
is even better. Hosted by Aston Kutcher Punk’d
Season 2 takes some of Hollywood’s finest and pushes them
to the brink in some rather interesting situations. |
10/24/04
|
Ren &
Stimpy: Seasons 1 & 2
They are weird, they are gross but they are oh
so funny. Join your favorite retarded cat and psychotic Chihuahua
in their adventures in Ren
and Stimpy Seasons 1 and 2 uncut. These two will be in any situation
you could possibly think of along with as many gross disgusting jokes
you could possibly imagine. |
10/20/04
|
SpongeBob
Square Pants: Season Two
Probably one of the most original ideas to come
about in a long time! New and refreshing Spongebob
breaks the usual hum drum format of TV and cartoons and puts a whole
new spin on it with colorful characters and side splitting hilarity.
How can you not love his beady eyes and bucktooth smile. |
10/19/04
|
Taxi: Season
One
Highly original, it is no wonder that season one
was an Emmy winner. Oddly enough the writers for Taxi
would go on to write another timeless classic Cheers, yet again with
a unique setting and cast. Through in every type of person you could
to drive the cab and there you have the workings of a fantastic sitcom. |
10/15/04
|
Walking Tall
The best part of Walking
Tall is its entertainment value. We of course have the Rock kicking
ass and taking names, but Hamiltons Casino thugs also provide some
hearty laughs. When Johnny Knoxville takes a table saw to one of the
thugs brand new 4x4’s slicing it up piece by piece it was hard
to keep a straight face. This is a pretty good flick. |
10/10/04
|
Saved!
Even though the teen angst, high school comedy
has been overdone time and time again, the idea of wrapping the idea
around religion while making it satirical and funny deserves some
points. After all the head pastor at the high school isn’t so
high and mighty, and the good girl gets pregnant by her gay boyfriend.
Saved!, overall, is an
average movie. |
9/29/04
|
Survivor
All-Stars
From its opening after the 2004 superbowl to the
finale live ending, Survivor
All Stars offered some of the best alliances, challenges and romances
to date. It is hard to continue to reinvent the Survivor wheel after
so many seasons, but the new dynamic was the fact that this time the
players knew each other and the game. |
9/28/04
|
7th Heaven
- Season One
The Camdens, a normal family from Glenoak, California,
has proven to be the WB’s longest running show. 7th
Heaven doesn’t really have a gimmick, but what it does have
is the ability to relate to every member of a family. Instead of just
endless banter and canned comedy 7th Heaven offers substance, something
shows today can not compete with. |
9/27/04
|
Star Trek
Voyager: Season 4
Season
4 was in reviewer Dan Culver's mind the best season for Voyager
hands down. This season is by far the one that would or could watch
several times over. You also can’t have the first three seasons
and not have season 4. The creativity and imagination found in Season
4 is unmatched to any other. |
9/24/04
|
Diff'rent
Strokes: Season One
A ‘stroke’ of genius, Diff’rent
Strokes brought laughs to adults and children alike with a heartwarming
premise. Having a wealthy uptown business man take in two underprivileged
kids from Harlem was pure genius. Mr. Drummond and his daughter Kimberly
(Dana Plato) lovingly opened their home as a promise Mr. Drummond
made to his former housekeeper. |
9/20/04
|
Star Trek:
Generations - Collector's Edition
Even though there are some interesting sub plots
such as Data’s emotion chip acting up and the Enterprise D crash
landing onto a planets surface, Star
Trek Generations doesn’t quite live up the other great Star
Trek Movies. A good movie and worth the purchase for the Special Collectors
Edition, your Star Trek Collection wouldn’t be complete without
it . |
9/16/04
|
Raw
Eddie Murphy is rude, relentless and downright
RAW! Let’s just say
if you are Italian you’ll be offended by his comedy. If you
are Bill Cosby you might even be offended by his comedy! That’s
all fine and well because that is exactly what Eddie Murphy delivers,
RAW uncensored no holds barred comedy aimed at anyone. |
9/6/04
|
Radio Flyer
Once in a great while it is nice to step away
from the action packed blockbusters to take in a feel good flick.
While it does have some rather serious issues to deal with, Radio
Flyer is a wonderful story of how two brothers escape the cruelties
of life with heart and most of all their imagination. |
9/6/04
|
Bad Boys
II
Detectives Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and
Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) are back again in Bad
Boys II. This time they are trying to expose an elusive Cuban
drug Lord bringing the largest shipment of ecstasy into Florida. The
only thing larger than the shipment of drugs are the explosive action
sequences that abound in this movie. |
9/5/04
|
Star Trek:
The Original Series, Season One
Compelling, engrossing and downright entertaining!
That is how I would choose to describe The Complete First Season of
the original Star Trek. Star
Trek: The Original Series Season 1 sets the viewers mind in motion
looking to delve into the realm of exploration of both space and the
voyage of self discover. |
9/4/04
|
The Girl
Next Door
A very comical look at teen love, the porn industry
and the tribulations of graduating high school are all rolled into
one fantastic UNRATED version. The
Girl Next Door has Matthew Kidman (Emile Hirsh) pining over the
‘housesitter’ next door Danielle (Elisha Cuthbuert). |
9/2/04
|
I Love Lucy:
Season 2
How can you not simply adore that rambunctious red head whose fervor
for life and desire to perform has delighted generations with her
antics? With such a bounty of extras, combined with the classic I
Love Lucy comedy, you simply can’t go wrong with season
two. |
8/23/04
|
Johnson Family
Vacation
If you happen to see a red tricked out Lincoln Navigator on the road
who might want to turn around and head the opposite direction. In
Johnson Family Vacation,
Cedric the Entertainer takes his entire family in a whirlwind adventure
across country trying to make it to their annual family reunion. |
8/17/04
|
Jean-Luc
Picard Collection
Some famous captains have statues constructed of them, while other
publish their memoirs, yet our favorite captain of the starship Enterprise
was lucky enough to have his very own DVD box set made! The Jean-Luc
Picard Collection is a fantastic 2 disc set that may just be an
essential to a serious “Next Generation” fan. |
8/17/04
|
Laverne and
Shirley: Season 1
Director Garry Marshall scores yet another hit with the timeless sitcom
Laverne and Shirley. Like its predecessor Happy Days, from which it
spun off, Laverne and Shirley
took place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the 50’s to the delight
of its adoring fans. At the center of this show were the sarcastic
Laverne DeFazio and naïve Shirley Feeney. |
8/16/04
|
Happy Days:
Season 1
Travel back in time to a day when poodle skirts, drag races and going
steady with your girl were the order of the day. Happy
Days season one takes us back to just such a time when America
was just starting to come out of its shell. Set in Milwaukee Wisconsin
in the 50’s, Happy Days dealt with all of the innocence and
turmoil that teens of that time period faced. |
8/15/04
|
Predator:
Collector's Edition
The ultimate guy movie, the ultimate collectors edition, oh yah it’s
Arnold Schwarzenegger time - Predator
Collection's Edtion DVD brings it!. Once again Arnold has to come
in and save the day, this time to search for kidnapped high ranking
officials in a South American Jungle. This is a fantastic watch for
anyone that loves action movies. |
8/9/04
|
Futurama
Volume 4
In the words of Professor Farnsworth, “No more good news, everyone.”
Sadly yet triumphantly Futurama ended after its fourth season. The
victim of ever changing time slots Futurama
never did live up to Matt Groenings counterpart hit The Simpsons,
but to its loyal followers it has provided a myriad of hardy laughs
and countless parodies. |
8/7/04
|
Dorm Daze
If you remember college as a time of fun and discovery then the hilarity
of National Lapoons Dorm
Daze will bring you back to those memories of old. Young faces
fresh from network TV as well as recent hit films fill the halls of
Hillenbrand University as we the viewers take a ride through one very
eventful day. |
8/6/04
|
The Dreamers
Classified as a seductively intense art film, The
Dreamers is set in France in 1968 when film, politics, and revolution
are at the forefront of the youth in Paris. Having delved into this
genre before only once, I found myself oddly intrigued by the premise
of the entire movie and very moved by how the film was shot by renowned
director Bernardo Bertolucci. |
8/3/04
|
Hellboy
While the action sequences don’t dominate the film they sure
do make it come to life. Mixed with spontaneity, comedy and wonderful
direction Hellboy is
sure to become a favorite of many movie buffs. After watching the
movie and extras I learned that the story is actually an adaptation
of a comic book. |
8/1/04
|
M*A*S*H*
Season 6
Even after six seasons
Clinger is still trying to get his section 8 dismissal and even employs
the help of one of the wounded who happens to be a lawyer. Well actually
the patient turns out to be only a private and quite the con artist.
Not even Radars pet rabbit fluffy is safe from Major Houlihan when
she thinks she is pregnant and needs to use the critter to verify
the test. |
7/31/04
|
Star Trek:
Voyager Season 3
With a superb storyline and an introduction of new enemies as well
as sub plots Voyager Season
3 is arguably the best yet. The extra features only add to the
sets allure, while fans of the show get more and more involved with
the characters. It’s great to see the Star Trek legacy was carried
on so very well as Voyager warped through its third successful season. |
7/24/04
|
South Park:
Season 4
When they are not running from the huge breasts of their fourth grade
teacher, or trying to survive from a trapper keeper that is taking
over the world, the boys of South Park really live it up in Season
4. |
7/9/04
|
Just Shoot
Me! Season 1 & 2
From the casting alone one could tell that Just
Shoot Me! was going to be a funny and wacky sitcom. The title
was reason enough to make you want to tune in to watch the witty banter
and shenanigans that seemed to be happening. Just Shoot Me offers
a light look at beauty and how we all deal with the rest of the nut
cases we meet on a daily basis. |
7/7/04
|
Star Trek:
Voyager Season 2
Following the success of TNG and Deep Space Nine, Season
2 of Voyager was well on its way to Star Trek fame. Facing the
premise of being thrown across the galaxy, all the while trying to
get back home, the storyline and characters were surprisingly given
carte blanche as far as how the show would progress. |
7/6/04
|
The Perfect
Score
There is a certain naivety with the characters and the fact that their
plan isn’t perfect, their methods somewhat campy and their execution
having more to do with luck than anything else really gives The
Perfect Score a great element of surprise. |
7/5/04
|
The Joe Schmo
Show
You couldn’t have asked for a more sincere, decent, goofy, genuine
‘Joe Schmo’ than Matthew Gould.
This is the kind of guy you would want for a best friend. A very refreshing
change from the cut-throat back stabbing shows we’ve been forced
to watch from Network TV. SPIKE TV has a winner and America has a
new TV Hero in Matt Gould as ‘Joe Schmo’. |
6/25/04
|
BarberShop
2
Ice Cube plays the owner of the Barbershop in a south Chicago suburb
about to be overtaken by land developers. Barbershop
2 is a film with a very wide audience that could understand both
the comedy and complexity it has to offer. The scene with Cedric the
Entertainer and Queen Latifah exchanging blows is reason alone to
pick up this DVD. |
6/24/04
|
Who's The
Boss? - Season One
Who’s the Boss had great success
in its first season thanks in large part to the tension between the
main characters Tony Micelli (Tony Danza) and Judith Light (Angela
Bower). Disguised as another typical 80’s sitcom, Who’s
the Boss had an edge that no other show at the time really did. |
6/21/04
|
Summer School
Although it never quite got the recognition of other great 80’s
films like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, Summer
School staring Mark Harmon and Courtney Thorne-Smith holds its
own. For great laughs along with a fun cast of veteran and up and
coming stars this film will leave you laughing all the way through. |
6/14/04
|
Black Hawk
Down: Superbit Edition
Whether you are watching army rangers rappel from helicopters, or
hearing rocket propelled grenades and bullets fly by your head, Black
Hawk Down in one word is simply engrossing. Unlike some other
movies portraying war time events the violence is by no means overdone
and I particularly enjoyed the humanity of the characters. |
6/13/04
|
50 First
Dates
In 50 First Dates this Pacific player
meets his match however when he encounters Lucy Whitmore at a local
restaurant one Sunday morning. The only problem is Lucy has no short
term memory since her car accident almost a year earlier. This is
a great movie to see with someone special, or even shall I say, something
to watch on a first date. |
6/12/04
|
Frasier:
Season 3
The Emmys that Frasier has won over the years could speak for themselves.
You know a swift retort is coming from someone and you are just waiting
for it. The first 10 episodes or so of season
3 have a great battle between Frasier and his new boss played
by Mercedes Ruehl which of course ends up in a romance. |
6/11/04
|
Cheers: Season
3
Perhaps one of the greatest sitcoms of all time Cheers really blossomed
during its third season. Just about everyone during season
3 fell in and out of love. With an attractive box set, superb
audio and video quality one really can’t go wrong adding Cheers
Season 3 to their collection.. |
5/24/04
|
Welcome to
Mooseport
Aside from the great cast, along with an interesting premise, Welcome
to Mooseport just seemed to be missing something. It is almost
like Ray Romano took his character from Everybody loves Raymond, put
on a tool belt and said, "Hey I’m a different person!"
when clearly he was playing the same role with a different name. |
5/22/04
|
Survivor:
Season 1
Launching an entirely new genre onto not only network but also cable
TV, Survivor Season 1 receives kudos for
its originality and intriguing premise. Broken down to its raw elements,
the human persona will do whatever it takes to win. An instant hit
- Survivor Season 1 is a must have for any reality TV addict. |
5/18/04
|
Paycheck
Paycheck offers a futuristic, suspenseful
and action packed movie that is well balanced and entertaining to
watch. With young screen veterans Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman and Aaron
Eckhart there is enough in the storyline for each to act their part
well while carrying the movie to its conclusion. |
5/16/04
|
Club Dread
It's campy, it's corny, but we all knew that it would be going into
it, or did we? Broken Lizard's Club Dread
is a comedy-horror-love saga-spoof type movie, if that is even a category.
My only advice or warning for that matter is this: go into this movie
expecting to laugh, sigh and roll your eyes. |
5/11/04
|
Stargate
SG-1: Season 6
Clearly not the DVD set for the masses, Stargate
SG-1 Season 6 definitely has its niche with Science Fiction fans
all around. With creative writing, a solid storyline and a well rounded
cast this set offers adventure and intrigue. Keep an eye out for some
well known cameo’s and Daniel Jackson. |
5/08/04
|
The Good
The Bad and The Ugly : CE
For a film that actually came out in the 60’s The
Good The Bad and The Ugly stands alone, not only for Westerns,
but for direction, acting and storyline. Watching this film makes
me want to see other Leone films just out of curiosity. I was compelled
and captivated watching his film and even after three hours still
wanted more. |
5/05/04
|
D-Day Return
of the 509th
In a day when kids and even some adults idolize singers, athletes
and movie stars we often forget that the real hero’s of this
country and in fact the world are the men and women that served and
continue to serve in our armed forces. From PBS home video comes D-Day:
Down to Earth Return of the 507th. |
4/29/04
|
Osama
“Osama” is a film that portraits
the harsh realities of life under the Taliban regime. It will put
into perspective how wonderful a live we live in the modern western
world. Not to take away from the acting and direction of the film
itself, Osama has thousands of counterparts that if put together would
make the film a true story. |
4/19/04
|
Timeline
Based on Michael Crichton’s book by the same title, Timeline
follows the basic storyline with the exception of how certain characters
expire. With popcorn, your favorite snack and an open imagination
Timeline could easily offer a “knights” worth of entertainment.
|
4/15/04
|
In Living
Color
Prepare to laugh hysterically with the originals of sketch comedy
and outright fun. Watching In Living Color Season
One brought back a flood of memories to the early 1990’s
when the show first aired. Back then gasoline was cheap, the Ninja
Turtles ruled the world, but In Living Color ruled Fox’s Sunday
night lineup. |
4/04/04
|
School of
Rock
A good cover band can make or break an evening much like a good substitute
teacher can make the school day ‘rock on’ or drag on forever.
In School of Rock, Jack Black takes
the lead as a metal band dropout turned prep school substitute teacher.
|
4/03/04
|
Reefer Madness
It’s time to delve into the world of drugs, sex, violence 1930’s
style. First released in the late 1930’s as a propaganda movie
against marijuana, “Reefer Madness”
displays the effects of marijuana on today’s youth in a campy,
sophomoric way that only the government could pull off. |
3/21/04
|
Bull Durham:
Special Edition
Baseball, sexual tension and a free steak if you hit the Bull Billboard
in right center field with a homerun. That’s what I call a great
movie. Bull Durham definitely has all it takes
to be a classic. Ron Shelton a former ball player himself, caught
every intricacy of the game in his film. This film has more one-liners
in it than an HBO comedy relief show. |
3/19/04
|
Cheaper By
The Dozen
Come join the Baker family (all twelve of them) for a fun, entertaining
and albeit crazy ride through their life. While trying to manage twelve
kids and a job Tom and Kate Baker (Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt) manage
to do it all, while still staying somewhat sane in Cheaper
By The Dozen. |
2/29/04
|
Jeremiah:
The First Season
Jeremiah offers a unique look at the
post-apocalyptic Earth 15 years after the ‘big death’
which took the lives of every adult. Struggling to stay alive and
find answers to the past Jeremiah (Luke Perry) tries living the life
of a noble citizen in a world that has more conspiracy and questions
than answers. |
2/16/04
|
Uptown Girls
MGM’S “Uptown Girls”
is a movie that can appeal to moviegoers of all types. Although touted
as a comedy this film is more of a coming of age drama with moments
of levity and surprising turns. You can go in with the thought of
laughing but you might come out of the film needing a box of tissue. |
2/12/04
|
Runaway Jury
With a great ensemble cast and riveting non-linear storyline, Runaway
Jury offers much more than just your typical courtroom drama.
Director Gary Fleder wonderfully pulls together the strengths of not
only the actors but the story of the film without giving the picture
away in the very beginning. It is hard not to be completely engrossed
from the beginning to the end while rooting for both sides. |

Out of Time
- Review
Denzel Washington once again does his best to bring a movie up from
mediocrity to mainstream in “Out of
Time”. As the Chief of Police Mattias Whitlock, he finds
himself in the middle of a divorce with his estranged wife who is
a detective herself and a double murder, while also trying to hide
a stash of drug money seized in a federal investigation. |
